SHG (Self Help Groups) is to help the Below Poverty Line (BPL) women. This is a Government Scheme. Collectorate and Secretariat is giving special interest in this scheme. Approximately 13 women will form a group. Government gives some guidelines for running the SHG. If the members of an SHG follow the guideline for 6 months, they will be given Rs.10,000/- subsidy from Collectorate (DRDA- District Rural Development association) and Rs.15, 000/- bank loan to start a small-scale business. Now we are spreading the message about this into our villages and already formed 22 groups. Our role in coordinating the group is learning the SHG process and policy from the Collectorate and teaching it to the group. Just making sure the SHG members know the benefits of the scheme. Obviously uniting the women members are one another hectic task in this. Already a grocery shop is running in Mandhiripalayam and it is being managed by SHG.
